"In the video work the garden is a metaphor for the mind and the body. I have filmed what happens from spring to late autumn: caring, uprooting, pests. The garden reveals different sides of itself, the gentle and the blooming, but also the cruel and the macabre."
Anne Siirtola is a Finland based visual artist, combining different materials and methods in her artistic practice depending on the starting point and context of the work. She has presented, among others, installations, mixed media sculptures, paintings, moving image and photos.
"The materials I use are recycled, such as old clothes and textiles. Some of the materials are found on roads and picked from the forest. I'm inspired by the traces of change, passage of time and decay – processes that occur in the human mind and body, as well as in matter and the surrounding nature."
In recent years focus her has been on communal art and encounters with different people, asking what is worthy and important in life. She has commissioned several public works and some of her works belong to the collections of Kiasma, Helsinki Art Museum and the Finnish State. Her work has been presented in numerous exhibitions both in Finland and abroad.
