Underwbelow is an expermental animation about the basic human emotions and the circle of life. What actually separates us from animals? The animation takes us to a journey through time and space.
The imagery of the animation has been created with ink drawing technique Essel has developed. The original drawings were made by blowing the ink on a paper which creates very organic lines and structures. Compined with photographic images this creates a very strong visuality for the whole animation.
Toni Essel (b. 1978) is a media artist and teacher living in Jyväskylä, Central Finland. In his work Essel studies people’s motives, beliefs and attitudes through which he seeks to understand and interpret our cultural phenomena. Essel works with installation, animation, sound and performance.
